Tuesday June 7th
Tuesday was finally my 21st birthday! The day was wonderful and didn't rain until the end of the day which was expected because it always rains on my birthday. However, I picked out a great perfume by L'Occitane. Ge and myself went to an exibit in Brussels called 6 Billion Others. It was a video exibit with interview clips of many different people from different cultures and their views on topics such as love, dreams, war, and so on. It was wonderful but, in the three hours we had we only saw about half of the exibit. For dinner I was taken to a local restaurant. I had some pasta and ice cream for dessert with beligum chocolate sauce. They restaurant even played happy birthday to me and had sparkelers. It was a great night at dinner and I ended the night by packing for my Italy/France trip.
Wednesday June 8th
Today I literally traveled either by bus, train, or plane for 14.5 hours. I left La Hulpe, Belgium at 9 am on the train for Brussels Midi. From the train station I took a bus to the airport for my flight to Milan, Italy. The flight was just under 2 hours and then I took a bus from the airport to the center of Milan. My tain left Milan at 4 pm and should have taken only 4 hours to arrive in France. However the train was stuck for 3 hours because of a broken down train. So, finally at 11:30 at night I arrived in Chambery, France hungry and tired.
Thursday June 9th
Thursday was my first day in France! Chambery, France is a "small town" in the French Alps. It has some great mountains all around the town. For brunch we had AMAZING crepes. I had three! One with ham and differnt cheeses, another with Nutella and bananas, and the last one with only Nutella. I cant wait to make these when I arrive back home. Because of the sunny weather we went to the lake (Lac Bourget) and walked along the water for a bit. The lake and mountains were beautiful and it was nice to relax. We went to a city near the lake called Aix les Bains. It was a small town with some very old buildings. We sat and ate some ice cream, speculoos and cookies! When we arrived back in Chambery Celie went to work for a couple of hours and her Boyfriend gave me a quick tour of Chambery and some history behind it. (He also was able to practice his English, he was very good at it.) After relaxing while Celie worked we picked her up and attened their swing dance lessons. I tried to learn but I was not very good at it.
Friday June 10th
Yesterday, was again sunny and we decided to hike one of the mountains! Okay we drove most of the way and then went on a 30 mins hike to the top. It was beautiful up there and you could see for miles. The mountain was called la dent du chat. It was nice to get some exercise and have a snack at the top of the mountain. We drove back down and sat on a beach at the same lake as the day before. Me and Celie went back to the apartment to relax until her Israeli dance class and I took a nap. However, I was woken up by her and she said their was a gas leak and everyone had to get out of the building. We went outside and waited for about 2.5 hours while the fire department, police, and gas company blocked off traffice and searched the building. There was no gas leak but, only the smell of a gas tank someone must of carried into the building. I was glad that nothing started on fire because my passport was in the apartment!!! After being let back into the building we prepared for the dance class. There was great food and I even learned one of the dances. Last night we stayed in the country at her moms house. It is a beautiful house with views of the mountains. My alergies were bad yesterday and my head hurt so I went to bed right away and slept for 12 hours.
More to come....

Belgium Update
Saturday June 4th, 2011
I am getting some pictures up and updateing everyone on the last few days of my trip. The last blog post I wrote talked about the rose garden I was going to see for the day. I have posted two pictues from the walk in the garden but, on facebook you can see more. The rose garden was amazing and the smell was intoxicating. There were roses featured from all different countries. Some countries were better than others. The most amazing was Japan!! Before we walked through the garden we visited at a friends "house" next to the park. The house was old and beautiful. I saw only a few rooms but I knew that I wanted the house. The house belonged to a good friend of Ge's mom and then there were some other family friends there as well. We ate ice cream with Strawberries and had after coffee chocolates. It was a wonderful way to spend the day.
Sunday June 5th, 2011
Sunday I woke up a bit earlier than my usual time and got ready to go to church. I was very interested in going to a church in Europe to see the differences. I requested that before we went to the market that we go to church. The church we went to was St. George church and it was tiny. The size was no bigger than a bedroom and fit about 30-40 people. The mass was catholic and only lasted about 35 mins. I was introduced to the people who own the church and heard the history behind it. It was the cutest church you will find. After church Ge's mom and I went to the Old Town of Brussels and spend time at the flee market. It was a huge market in a large square with a marching band that walked around the square playing. There were also other traditional beligum music being played and people everywhere. I walked around and saw some great antiques. I bought a couple of scarves (of course) and then a little something for my sister. I had a nice lunch in a old Belgium pub. In the evening we ate some steak that was from Ireland and then got ready to go see a movie. The movie was Lincoln Lawyer with two of my favorite actors. Matthew McConaughey and Josh Lucas. Great movie to see and I hope to buy it when I get back.
Monday June 6th, 2011
Yesterday was raining off and on throughout the day. I spend some time researching for Italy and London. (Still looking for a place to stay in Italy!) I caught up on pictues and backing everying up on the external harddrive. I spend some time finishing my book I was reading and then started some packing for my trip that starts on Wedneasday. I walked around the center of La Hulpe and found a 10 euro bill laying on the ground! (My birthday present I guess.) I spent the rest of the day just relaxing and watching some episodes of The Big Band Theory on the computer. Dinner was pasta with a cream sauce and a bunch of shrimp!

Belgium Update #2
Hello Everyone,
I am happy to report that today is another sunny warm day in Belgium. I have been told that the weather is nice because I am here! Last time I was in Belgium (2007) it was cloudy and rainy most of the time. After writing this post I will be going outside for some sun! I have been doing a lot of relaxing here in Belgium and I can not complain about anything!! Lets see if I can update from the last time I posted.
Thursday I spent most of my day just relaxing and spending some time at the house. I have been able to enjoy the sun everyday and read some of my books. Thursday evening after dinner we went to a town close by where there was a block party that Ge had to work at. I walked around the town even though most things were closed because of a holdiay. There was a great ice cream store open and I bought a dish of ice cream. The two flavors were cookies and cream brulee. It was a wonderful treat on a hot day. The block party was fun and after I was introduced to some friends of those hosts I felt better. We all had some drinks and talked about my travels and learned some about their lives. Ge's parents and grandmother came to pick me up and then we went to a seafood dinner. I had a big plate of baked Cod with tomatoes, potaotes, carrots, onions, and oils. They served bread before the meal and then small snails that were still in the shell. I actually had a couple and they were okay! It was a great dinner and good conversation to be part of.
Yesterday, Friday I stayed at home most of the day. I laid in the sun for a long time but, also did some research for Italy and tried to find some places to stay while I am there. In the evening last night Ge and myself went to a friends house where they had a big screen in the yard for the Belgium vs Turkey soccer game! It was a nice party and I had a rasberry beer. I also saw some friends that I met the first time I was in Belgium! It was wonderful to see those people again along with some new faces. We did not stay long after the game because Ge has exams on Monday so she needed to get some sleep.
Today I am again relaxing in the sun but later I will go to a rose garden that is near by and then maybe go for another run in the park. I have yet to take pictures there bcause I dont want to run with my camera. I am also still working on getting my computer hooked to the net here. When I do that I can then post pictures of the last few days.

Belgium Update # 1
Hello Everyone!
I am finally getting time to write a blog about my time so far in Belgium. I guess I always had time but, relaxing in the sun was a bit more appealing. I arrived on Monday evening to Belgium and was greated by a loving Belgium sister and we drove to her house in La Hulpe; Belgium. By the time you drive through the crazy city it takes only about 30-40mins to get to the house. Dinner consited of white asparagus, flemish style omelett and then some bread to add to the meal. Dessert was some dark chocolate and tea. If I could bring some of this tea back just to smell I would. The tea smelt so good! Ge (my family's former host daughter) and myself went for quick walk and then I went to bed.
Yesterday, Tuesday I went with Ge to the center of Brussels and walked around while she did an interview. I have to admit I was lost for a while. However, all the places quickly became familiar to me and I enjoyed walking around the area. After a quick nap there was again a great dinner ready to eat. This time we had Fishermans Stew with some top quality seafood. After dinner we went to a French play at the university and I tried to follow the story line even though I dont know French! It was great to see the play and experience something new and unknown.
Today has been great it is very sunny and the perfect temp outside! I started my day with a walk to the park (not like the park in Chippewa but amazing with a beautiful mansion) and then decided to go for a run. I ran along many of the trails and took in the amazing beauty of the park. I will take pictures next time I bring my camera there. After walking back to the house I read a book outside and then made some lunch. Now, I am just getting in from reading again and then Ge and I will go for a bike ride! It has been a wonderful day!
I promise I will post pictures soon!

Amsterdam Update #3
Hello Everyone!
Today is my last day in Amsterdam. I leave at 2:30 in the afternoon for Brussels. (That would be 7:30 am your time!) Today I went to my hosts lecture at the university. She teaches a occupational therapy discussion on Mondays. We biked from the apartment to the university and I just sat and read a book and listened to the converstation. Now I am deciding if I want to go for a bike ride before I take the metro to the bus station. I have about 2.5 hours until I leave so I might go ride around.
Yesterday after I walked around amsterdam some more I went for a 2 hour bike ride. It was wonderful! There might be some nice places to bike in the Midwest but, nothing like these trails. There is a whole bike path system here in the city and outside the city. It is amazing and beautiful. This bike paths are not just a single path that goes from point A to point B. The paths cross one another, go into random roads, cut through park, and under roads. I had a huge map with me but, I still didn't know where I was going. So, I just rode and ended up in a park. I will have pictures up soon of the bike trip.
My next entry will be from Belgium! (My second home.)

Amsterdam Update #2
Hello Everyone!
I again am starting my day today with a visit to the library. The weather outside is cold and windy but, no rain yet!!! I am dressed in warm clothes so the wind won't make me sick. Today I think I will take the different metro lines out of Amsterdam and visit some neighborhoods. I normally take the 54 to the area I am staying but, I think I will take either the 50, 51, or 53 to see what there is around the city. If it is not raining when I return to the apartment tonight I hope to go for another bike ride.
Yesterday I managed to walk around a good portion of the city. I think I was walking from 12 (noon) until 5:00 pm. It was wonderful and the time flew by so quickly. Every street there is something to look at and marvel over. There are many people around so it is fun to watch others and see how they act. I went to a market and thought about buying some cheese and crackers but, I was not hungry enough. Today, if the market is open I will buy some fruit or a sandwhich. I forgot that I wanted to bike today in the city and left without asking to take the bike. This might be a good thing because biking in Amsterdam is CRAZY! I was only going to bike on the side streets. Last night I went for a bike ride with my hosts and we watched some African Dancing. The area where they live is very diverse and interesting.
Tomorrow I will pack up my bags and travel by bus to Belgium. The bus ride departs Amstel Sation which is close to where I am staying. From there to Brussels it is a 4-5 hour bus ride! I know it sounds like a long time on the bus but, at this point in my trip saving money it great! So bus ticket cost 10 dollars and train was about....40 dollars.

Amsterdam Update #1
Hello Everyone!
I have been getting some questions about when I will post an entry about Europe. To everyone who reads this I am safe and sound! I arrived in Amsterdam on Friday at 6 am central time. Here in Amsterdam it was about 1 pm. I managed to find my way into Amsterdam central and buy a three day metro/bus pass This has proved to be a great purchase at 15.50 euro. I have unlimited use and this can take me all over and outside of Amsterdam to places such as the area I am staying in.
The town that I am staying in is called Bijlmer. This is only about 20mins outside of the center of Amsterdam. It is a very quick tram ride. The area is very basic and a bit odd but, the people I am staying with are great. I have yet to explore it but, I will head to the net metro stop and check out the stores. There are two girls and both are very nice. I decided to couch surf because I wanted to meet some locals and I actually felt safer doing that instead of a hostel. For those who don't know, couchsurfing is a online database of people who offer there houses for travelers to stay. It sounds scary but, it is wonderful if you know what to do. Elenora Hof is hosting me and we shared a wonderful breakfast of my oatmeal and some barkery bread!
So far I have just done some walking in Amsterdam central. I took the tram back into town yesterdam evening and just enjoyed a walk around the area. I watch some Holland Beach Soccer in dam square. I also walked into the area that my dad and I visited when we were here in 2007.
Today I am going to explore some more areas of the city and maybe go to the zoo. The weather is very windy and cloudy today. So, I am bundled up but, still looking cute. Elenora gave me some maps and guides and told me a few places to go. I would love to go to some museums but, they are expensive here and I want to save that for London and Italy!
Overall Amsterdam is so cute. It is full of tourist but, people sure do know how to dress over here. They are not afraid of fashion and I respect that. I have today and Sunday here and then I leave Monday afternoon for Brussels! Also to note I wish we had a great metro system like they do here, it makes travel so much easier. Once I have a computer in Belgium I will post pictures.

Inspiration
My inspiration comes from the things around me. I love color, details, people, buildings, and the list honestly can go on and on. One way that I find motivation and inspiration daily is by looking at other successful businesses started by someone with a passion. A couple of months ago I happen to find a website about event design and planning called Couture Parties and Couture Wedding Design. I instantly fell in love with this business and the story of the founder. The founder of Couture Parties is a woman by the name of Stephanie Frazier Grimm. Her business of wedding and event planning is out of Newport, RI. Following the business blog and hearing her input on industry advise keeps me motivated and driven to be as successful as she has become. Her events and weddings that she designs and plans are beautiful. Check out her website by clicking the icon below!
Final Weeks of the School Year!
Each day my final semester of my Junior year comes closer to ending. With each of these days I find myself thinking about the world that is waiting for me just outside the walls of college. Yes, sure college has been liberating and brought about so many wonderful things but, I can't help but wonder what path I will take once I take my last final next spring. I also have to remind myself that my last final of college is still a year away! In the meantime I am still loving life, although I wish I had a bit more time to sit and explore great websites, plan my future, and search for volunteer opportunities. On New Years Eve/Day my resolution was to make 2011 the best year so far of my life. To me every year has something wonderful about it but, I wanted 2011 to be different. So, far this year I have come to find out more about me that I ever thought I would and this will only continue through my summer in Europe and upon entering into my senior year of college. I am proud of how involved I have been with events, fashion, and my interests in event planning/design this school year. I have met some wonderful people, worked at fantastic fashion shows, and started to develop myself as a soon to be working girl! I find my mind wondering all the time picturing myself as a successful "student" when I graduate. Student seems to be the most appropriate term to use, I never want to stop learning after I graduate.

Portfolio
With my list of tasks to complete increasing as my trip draws near I am starting to wish I had just a bit more time to tackle this to-do list. Today I have decided to add another project to my list of idea. My hopes for after graduation is to try and jump into the events/PR world whether that be fashion or something related to that. Not really knowing where to start or how to present my knowledge that I have and will continue to collect I decided to do some research about the industry. In a fashion PR article about getting an internship I or job in the industry there was an idea to start a portfollio of related work. What a great idea! This protfollio will include pictures, recaps, and samples of my work. The goal in many ways is to showcase my event, fashion show, and writing experience. All my experiences are volunteer based or student group inspired but, I have a long list generated and it is time to create something (portfollio) to show people my hard work. Although I do not know if PR is what I will end up working in I know that being involved with social media is going to be a major player in either events or PR. So, starting today I want to dedicate myself to my blog, tumblr, flickr (once I get my camera), and yes twitter!
The question is how will I get this portfollio done before fall???

Loving the Break
The weather is wonderful this week and I am trying to get active and work on my To-Do list. Being a planner I have both a long term and short term list going and both are being worked on this week of break. I do wish that I worked in the morning which would allow for me to complete an extended amount of stuff versus working in the middle of the day and having to start and stop different tasks. However, today I have finished a rough draft for my Fashion Show article for FAB. It appears to be okay for my first article but, more time will nee to be put into this before it is complete. Other than that I have some emails to send out and some details to start sorting through for the event trip I am planning for my student groups and also the Envision Fashion Show trip that I am planning for students to volunteer at. The rest of my week will consist of working on homework and preparing for the remaining two months of this spring semester!

Up-Close with Silhouettes
Currently I am in the process of writing an article for UW-Stout's fashion, art, and business magazine called FAB. Although I do not plan on becoming a magazine writer or any writer in the future it is great experience to write about fashion and related events. Any experience related to these topic areas allows me to gain more insight into my interests. It is nice to learn what the students around me are doing and the different aspects of the industry that one can be a part of. After the finished article is published I will find a way to link it to my blog so that it can be read and maybe given some feedback!
Moments like this allow my imagination and dreams to expand further out and that is a wonderful gift!

A One Way Ticket
It is official, I have purchased a one way ticket to Europe. My summer adventures will begin with a flight into Amsterdam. After a reflections on the fact that I just bought a plan ticket I realized I am starting my second trip to Europe in the same way I started my first trip to Europe. Amsterdam was the first European country and I stayed in when I traveled during the summer of 2007. This trip will vary greatly from the first trip to Europe because I will be flying solo and not with my father. I have a mixed feeling of emotions for my summer months. Excitement of course fills me when I think about the long walks around the cities and towns of Europe but, nerves pass over me when I think about all the little details to work out. My "itinerary" for the first month of travel is unknown at this point but, is currently in the process of being reviewed. After a month of travel my classes and life in London will start. Sadly, after classes are finished in early August I will fly home, return date is still unknown at this point. Once I am accepted into the program and I have decided when I "want" to return I will book my return flight.

Carolina Herrera Resort 2011
While searching through yet another fashion website called The Cut (New York Magazine sponsored by Macy's) I found Carolina Herrera's Resort 2011 collection. Two of the evening gowns are pictured in this post and one of the other pieces of hercollection. This collection is truly an amazing with the soft almost antique like colors and the complete wearability. Check the website out below for a look at pages of amazing designers and their runway looks and the rest of this collection.
Summer Style-Europe
On my nightly search for great fashion and New York City blogs I found a blog called My Style Pill. The first pictures sold me and this blog is now on my favorites bar for easy access. This summer I want to be the fashionable traveler and this outfit is all that! Is this a sign that shopping starts now for Europe clothes???

Carolina Herrera
As most people in society know New York Fashion Week is well underway and pictures capturing the most sought after looks are all over the web. I will freely admit that I never grew up surrounding fashion and the little knowledge I do have about the industry has been self taught. Everyone though can learn to appreciate fashion and other areas of the industry. My eye caught this black and deep aqua gown by Carolina Herrera while pages through endless photos. The fit, structure, and detail of this gown is breathtaking. The rest of her fall 2011 collection can be viewed through the link below along with her spring 2011 and bridal collection. Carolina Herrera is now on my list of designers to watch for each season! Her clothes are simplistic in nature but have the perfect touch of detail that most women strive for.

FIT- Fashion Institute of Technology
Today consists of allowing myself to check off items from my to-do list! After organizing my schedule I sat down to take a look at FIT courses again. I periodically go back to look at the non credit programs that they offer (The list is very extensive!). Currently, I am a hospitality student at a university in Wisconsin and had the best intentions to earn my event management certificate while earning my degree. However, this plan has changed based on exploration of other options and mixed reviews on the actual classes the university offers for the certificate. My searching for something better has resparked my interest in New York City! I have am seriously considering venturing out to the big apple upon graduation next year and spending some time working, living, and taking some non credit courses from FIT.
Each course has a couple of sessions each of which are a couple hours at night. You pay a fee to take the class, usually between $20-300 each. I could work towards a couple of certificates through these class but, I will take things one step at a time. The actual classes and living in New York seems to be the least of my "worries" though. The major obstacle will be obtaining a full time job out in New York! I am confident that I can fully absorb the knowledge about the industry while there but, having a job is a major factor in the equation.
Stay tuned for more updates on FIT!

One Saturday Morning!
After my night of restless sleep and being locked out of my room I need a comforting breakfast to start the day off right. I decided to whipped up a batch of pancakes and add chucks of dark chocolate. To top it off I added a touch of sugar free syrup to the cakes and they had the perfect amount of sweetness to them.
*Mine were a little different but, there was no camera around to document the amazingness of my cakes!

Sweet Tooth
Today at work I tried some sugar free jelly with an English muffin. I was very surprised at how wonderful it tasted. This discovery has prompted me to look into making these sweet thangs sometime soon!
Basic Ingredients: Angle food cake mix, some chocolate chips, and sugar free jelly!
Pardon Fashion Show-Spring 2011
Although I grew up about 30 minutes away from Menomonie, WI and it too is a small town there is still a present culture shock in my system. The Twin Cities to many city goers is nothing more than a small city that just does not have what the big cities do. However, when you go from small town WI to "big city" Minneapolis and then back to small town WI that throws a bit of a shock in the mix. There is nothing that will change the situation that I am in when it comes to school location so I have to make the best of my environment and the lack of excitement around me. This past weekend though I was pleasantly surprised with the chance to volunteer some time for a fashion show in this small college town. I was not expecting much from the show but, I was so happy to be proven wrong.
Pardon: This show was created just last year by two University of Wisconsin-Stout students who were former apparel design majors. They both had a vision to create a wonderful fashion show to bring more awareness about fashion to the area. With about 20 talented designers and around 70 models this show was one of the best I have worked on thus far. There was even a New York Fashion Week designer showing her pieces at the show by the name of, Adrienne Yancy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/arielsimone). After the rehearsal the night before the show the workers and designers were all treated to a meal at Mona Lisa's in Eau Claire, WI (http://www.monalisas.biz/). One of the sponsors had all the food picked out and paid for all drinks. We were treated to cheese plates, flat bread pizzas, along with various breads and butters. It was a wonderful chance to talk about the industry and meet some really interesting and talented people. The actual day of the show was filled with floor and run way set construction and model hair and makeup. The popularity of the show was amazing and because of space limitation we had to turn away a huge line of people.
Dinner sponsored by: Jeremy Kachmar (Owner of The Nucleus and Racy's in downtown Eau Claire)

Coco Chanel Party Theme
The most resent picture posted on http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com/ is that of a Coco Chanel themed party. Coco Chanel is fantastic and elegant and so are the colors and decor of this party. The flowers used here are beautiful and just what I would chose from a relaxed lunch party. Take a look at the wonderful pictures and ideas from this site!

Fashion Show Details
This photo was taken at the Pardon fashion show, spring 2011. This was part of the wall dividing the run way in half. It was constructed with shredded sheets of various colors and then chicken wire that was balled up throughout the wall of fabric.
There is something so simple and wonderful about it.

Simply Amazing
Today while doing a quick scan of one of my favorite sites, Tumblr, I noticed a wedding dress. Myself being one of the biggest wedding enthusiast was in love with it. This dress is part of the Anthropologie wedding dress line. The following link provides a look at some of the dresses! Basically I am in love with all of them and I am currently planning the decor of weddings based off of each of the dresses.
